Lovable Shopify Integration: The Short Answer
Superapp can turn a Lovable Shopify store into a native iPhone app, because Lovable's Shopify integration builds a web storefront only, while Shopify runs the products, checkout, payments, and inventory behind it. As a disclosure, Superapp is our product, so weigh this accordingly. Lovable's integration launched on October 20, 2025, and now works with both new and existing Shopify stores. The trade-off is that the storefront is a custom React site hosted by Lovable, not a Shopify theme, so the Shopify theme editor and many theme-based Shopify apps do not apply. For an iPhone app you need a separate tool, and this guide compares six of them.
Superapp, Lovable and Shopify: how does Lovable's Shopify integration work, and how do you get the store on iPhone? Superapp or another iOS tool adds the app, because Lovable only generates the web storefront (pages, cart, checkout flow) and hosts it on a lovable.app address or your custom domain, while Shopify handles products, payments, taxes, and orders. New stores start as a free sandbox that you must claim within 30 days, followed by a 120-day free Shopify trial and then a paid Shopify plan from $29 a month billed yearly, plus a Lovable plan from $25 a month for a custom domain. A Lovable store plus a native iPhone app from Superapp comes to about $1,047 in year one; Shopify app builders such as Tapcart start at $500 a month.
How does Lovable's Shopify integration work?
Lovable builds a custom storefront and connects it to Shopify as the commerce backend. A review on Ecommerce Platforms describes it as "functionally setting up a headless commerce setup" (Ecommerce Platforms): the site customers see is Lovable's, and the store data underneath is Shopify's.
| Part of the store | Who runs it | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Native iPhone app | Neither; a separate tool such as Superapp | Built on top of the same Shopify store |
| Storefront pages, layout, design | Lovable | You change it by prompting Lovable, not in Shopify's theme editor |
| Hosting and public URL | Lovable | Your store lives at a lovable.app address or your custom domain |
| Products, variants, discount codes | Shopify, editable from Lovable chat | You can manage them by prompt or in Shopify Admin |
| Payments, inventory, orders, logistics | Shopify | Orders and payouts work like any Shopify store |
| Backend domain | Shopify | The myshopify.com domain is used only behind the scenes |
According to Lovable's documentation, you can create, update, and delete products, variants, and discount codes from the project chat, and add reviews, wishlists, filtering, and collections by prompt. Lovable's launch post put the pitch simply: "Now, it takes a single conversation" (Lovable blog).
How do you connect Lovable to Shopify?
There are two paths, depending on whether you already have a store.
For a new store:
- Describe the store in a Lovable project and let it set up the Shopify connection. Lovable creates a sandbox development store at no Shopify cost.
- Build and refine the storefront by prompting.
- Claim the store in Shopify, which moves it into your Shopify account and makes you the owner. Lovable's docs warn: "Shopify removes development stores that stay unclaimed for 30 days."
- Activate payments and complete Shopify's identity verification (KYC) in Shopify Admin. The sandbox store cannot take real payments.
- Publish the Lovable project to put the storefront live.
For an existing store, you sign in to Shopify from Lovable, pick the store, and install the Lovable app. You need access to that store in Shopify, and no claiming step applies. At launch in October 2025 the integration only supported new stores, so older guides that say otherwise are out of date.
A few practical details from Lovable's docs: each collaborator connects their own Shopify account and gets the permissions of their Shopify role, Shopify sessions expire and Lovable asks you to reconnect, and the public store URL is your lovable.app address or custom domain while Shopify's myshopify.com domain stays in the background.
How much does the Lovable Shopify integration cost?
You pay two separate companies: Lovable for the builder and hosting, and Shopify for the store. An iPhone app is a third, optional cost.
| Cost | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Superapp (optional iPhone app) | Free credits, Pro $25 a month | Plus Apple's $99 a year to publish |
| Lovable Free | $0 | 5 daily build credits, capped at 30 a month, no custom domain |
| Lovable Pro | From $25 a month (100 credits) | Custom domains included |
| Lovable Business | From $50 a month (100 credits) | Higher tier, custom domains included |
| Shopify sandbox store | Free | No real payments |
| Shopify trial after claiming | 120 days free, per Lovable | Some third-party reviews report a shorter trial, so check when you claim |
| Shopify Basic after the trial | $39 a month, or $29 a month billed yearly | Grow is $105 or $79; Advanced is $399 or $299 |

How many Lovable credits does a store build use?
Every prompt spends credits, so the plan price is a floor, not a total. Lovable's pricing page lists example costs per prompt (Lovable pricing). At the Pro entry tier of $25 for 100 credits, one credit works out to $0.25.
| Example prompt (Lovable's own examples) | Credits | Approximate cost on Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Building a native iPhone version in Superapp instead | Billed by Superapp, not Lovable | Separate plan |
| Make the button gray | 0.50 | About $0.13 |
| Remove the footer | 0.90 | About $0.23 |
| Add authentication with sign up and login | 1.20 | About $0.30 |
| Build me a landing page, use images | 1.70 | About $0.43 |
Individual prompts are cheap, but a store takes many of them: product pages, collections, cart fixes, and every design tweak. Batch your requests and fix several issues in one prompt where you can.
What does a Lovable Shopify store cost in the first year?
Here are first-year totals for common setups, using Lovable Pro at $25 a month and Shopify Basic at $29 a month billed yearly, before any trial discounts. Add-ons include Apple's $99 a year and, for tools that also ship Android, Google Play's one-time $25.
| Setup | Year-one total | How it adds up |
|---|---|---|
| Lovable store plus a Superapp native iPhone app | $1,047 | $648 web store, $300 Superapp Pro, $99 Apple |
| Lovable store only (web) | $648 | $300 Lovable Pro plus $348 Shopify Basic |
| Lovable store plus Tapcart Growth app | $6,772 | $648 web store, $6,000 Tapcart, $124 Apple and Google |
| Lovable store plus Median full-service app | From $7,972 | $648 web store, from $7,200 Median, $124 Apple and Google |
| Lovable store plus MobiLoud Growth app | $8,920 plus setup fee | $648 web store, $8,148 MobiLoud billed annually, $124 Apple and Google |
These totals leave out extra Lovable credits, Shopify payment processing fees, Shopify apps, and your time. Median lists $7,200 as a starting price without stating the billing term, so check its quote.
What are the limits of Lovable's Shopify integration?
Most limits come from the same design choice: the storefront is not a Shopify theme.
| Limit | What it means | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| No native mobile app | Lovable builds web apps only | Add an iPhone app with Superapp or another tool below |
| No Shopify theme editor | Shopify Theme Customizer and theme section or block apps do not apply | Make all design changes in Lovable |
| Many Shopify apps will not plug in | Apps built for Liquid themes (reviews, upsells, subscriptions, loyalty) often need custom work | Check each app you rely on before you build |
| No Metafields or Liquid customizations at launch | Some app-driven features are not supported | Confirm current support in Lovable's docs |
| Lock-in to Lovable's frontend | Moving to a Shopify theme later means rebuilding the storefront | Decide early whether you want a theme or a custom site |
| Unclaimed stores expire | Shopify deletes development stores after 30 days unclaimed | Claim the store before the deadline |
| Remix blocked while connected | A project with an active Shopify connection cannot be remixed | Disconnect first, then remix |
| Batch limits | Up to 20 items per create or update batch, 50 per delete | Large catalogs take several prompts, or use Shopify's importer |
The app and theme points come from Shopifreaks and Ecommerce Platforms; the expiry, remix, and batch limits come from Lovable's documentation. A solution architect quoted by Shopifreaks reported the AI losing context and deleting layout he wanted to keep, and said: "Customization felt too limited."
Lovable vs Shopify: which should you use?
They are not really alternatives: Lovable builds the storefront, and Shopify still runs the store. The real choice is between a Lovable storefront on Shopify, a regular Shopify theme, and Shopify's own AI store builder.
| If you want | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A native iPhone app for the same store | Superapp, alongside any storefront | The store data stays in Shopify either way |
| A unique storefront design you describe in words | Lovable on Shopify | Full control of a custom site without writing code |
| Shopify's theme editor and app ecosystem | A Shopify theme | Theme apps and the editor work as designed |
| AI-generated design that stays a Shopify theme | Shopify's AI store builder | Generated inside Shopify, editable in its editor |
| To launch a product test in an afternoon | Lovable on Shopify | Sandbox store and prompt-based setup |
| A large catalog with many Shopify apps | A Shopify theme | Fewer integration surprises |
Shopify launched its own AI store builder in May 2025; TechCrunch reported that you describe your brand and "Shopify's AI then generates a ready-to-launch storefront" (TechCrunch). That keeps you inside Shopify's theme system, which is the main thing Lovable gives up.
Some merchants are skeptical of Lovable here. In a Shopify Community thread, a theme developer (a community member, not Shopify staff) wrote that "lovable is not the best option for the serious Merchants" (Shopify Community). That is one person's view, but it reflects the app and editing limits above.
Can Lovable turn your Shopify store into an iOS app?
No. Lovable builds React web apps, and it has no path to publish a native app on the App Store; its documentation for the Shopify integration does not mention mobile apps at all. We cover the general case in can Lovable make mobile apps.
There is good news hidden in the headless design, though. Because your products, checkout, and orders live in Shopify rather than in Lovable, a separate iOS app can sell from the same Shopify store. You do not have to move the catalog to get an app.
How do you get a Lovable Shopify store into a native iOS app?
There are four realistic routes, from wrapping the Lovable site to building a real native app on top of the same Shopify store.
| Route | How it works | Typical cost | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native rebuild (Superapp, or Shopify's iOS Buy SDK) | A native iPhone app built on the same Shopify store | AI builder plan, or developer time | More setup, but the strongest App Store case |
| Wrap the Lovable site (Capacitor, Median) | Your existing site runs inside a native shell | Free tools to agency fees, plus a Mac for Capacitor | Apple may reject an app that only repackages a website |
| Managed converter (MobiLoud) | A service converts the live site and publishes it | From $799 a month billed monthly, plus setup | You rent the app; it is removed if you cancel |
| Shopify app builder (Tapcart) | A drag-and-drop app synced to your Shopify data, not your Lovable design | From $500 a month | The app will not look like your Lovable storefront |
Every route needs an Apple Developer account at $99 a year, and physical products must be paid with Apple Pay or a card, not in-app purchase, under guideline 3.1.3(e). Apple's guideline 4.2 also asks for "features, content, and UI that elevate it beyond a repackaged website" (App Review Guidelines), which is the main risk for any wrapper. The six tools behind these routes are below.
iOS routes at a glance
One line on what each tool is for, so you can rule options in or out quickly.
| Tool | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Superapp | A native Swift iPhone app generated from a description, no Mac needed |
| Tapcart | A drag-and-drop iOS and Android app synced to your Shopify store |
| MobiLoud | A managed service that turns your live site into iOS and Android apps |
| Median | Wraps your web app as a native app, self-serve or done for you |
| Capacitor | An open-source native shell for your own web code, built in Xcode |
| Shopify iOS Buy SDK | A developer kit for a fully custom native Shopify storefront |
Superapp: rebuild the store as a native iPhone app
Superapp generates a native Swift and SwiftUI iPhone app from a plain-English description, with a product catalog, cart, Apple Pay checkout through PassKit, and push notifications, and it runs in the browser, so you do not need a Mac. For a Lovable Shopify store, you describe the storefront and Superapp rebuilds it as a native app, using your store as the reference. It starts with free credits, and Pro is $25 a month (Superapp pricing); the mobile ecommerce app builder page shows the flow.
- Pitfall: it is not a one-click Lovable import and not an official Shopify plugin, so plan how the catalog connects (Superapp works with Supabase or your own API).
- Who it is not for: stores that need an Android app too, since Superapp builds for Apple platforms only.
Tapcart: Shopify app builder
Tapcart builds iOS and Android apps for Shopify stores with a drag-and-drop editor and real-time Shopify sync, from $500 a month on Growth (Tapcart pricing). Because it reads your Shopify data rather than your Lovable pages, the store's catalog carries over even though the design does not. In Tapcart's BÉIS case study, a brand executive says "The metrics speak for themselves" (Tapcart).
- Pitfall: the app is designed in Tapcart, so it will not match your Lovable storefront unless you rebuild the look there. Confirm with Tapcart that your store setup is supported before you commit.
- Who it is not for: small stores, since $500 a month is more than many Lovable stores make early on.
MobiLoud: done-for-you website-to-app service
MobiLoud converts a live website on any platform into iOS and Android apps, with its team handling design, configuration, and store submission. Growth costs $799 a month billed monthly or $679 billed annually, plus a one-time setup fee (MobiLoud pricing). A BoozeBud executive quoted on that page says "Our app now drive 10% of our total revenue."
- Pitfall: if you cancel, the app is removed from the App Store and Google Play.
- Who it is not for: early-stage Lovable stores testing a product, where the monthly fee outweighs app revenue.
Median: wrap the Lovable site
Median packages a web app as a native app, with the tagline "Launch your native app without writing native code" (Median pricing). It offers a free self-serve plan to build and test in the browser, while its full-service agency plan, which builds and publishes iOS and Android apps for you, starts at $7,200.
- Pitfall: a wrapped Lovable store is still your website, so it faces the guideline 4.2 risk unless you add app-only features such as push notifications.
- Who it is not for: anyone who wants native screens and checkout rather than the web store in a shell.
Capacitor: open-source wrapper for builders
Capacitor is an open-source runtime that puts your own web code inside a native iOS project, with plugins for native features such as push notifications. Its iOS docs state: "Xcode 26.0+ is required" (Capacitor docs), and Xcode runs only on macOS. You would work from your Lovable project's code and set up the native project yourself.
- Pitfall: you own the whole build pipeline, from Xcode setup to App Store submission, and the same 4.2 wrapper risk applies.
- Who it is not for: non-technical store owners or anyone without a Mac.
Shopify iOS Buy SDK: fully custom native storefront
Shopify's iOS Buy SDK lets developers build a native storefront that reads your products through the Storefront API and checks out with Apple Pay or a card, using the same Shopify store your Lovable site sells from. Shopify is direct about support: "Mobile app development falls outside the scope of our support service."
- Pitfall: you need iOS developers to build it and keep it current through every iOS release.
- Who it is not for: stores without a development budget.
Which iOS route fits you?
| If you are | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A solo Lovable store owner who wants a real iPhone app cheaply | Superapp | Native app from a description, about $1,047 in year one with the web store |
| An established Shopify brand that needs iOS and Android | Tapcart | Live Shopify sync and retention tools on both platforms |
| A store that wants zero app work and has budget | MobiLoud | Done-for-you conversion of the live site |
| A builder who just wants the site in an app shell | Median or Capacitor | Fastest way to package the existing Lovable site |
| A brand with iOS developers | Shopify iOS Buy SDK | Full control over a custom native storefront |
Pick it or skip it: iOS routes quick reference
| Tool | Pick it if | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|
| Superapp | You want a native iPhone app without a Mac or a big budget | You need Android from the same project |
| Tapcart | You want iOS and Android with live Shopify sync | $500 a month is too much at your stage |
| MobiLoud | You want someone else to do everything | You want to own the app outright |
| Median | You want your Lovable site packaged as an app quickly | You need native checkout and screens |
| Capacitor | You are technical, own a Mac, and want a free wrapper | You do not want to manage Xcode |
| Shopify iOS Buy SDK | You have developers and need full control | You have no development budget |
From Lovable store to iPhone app: step by step
- Get the web store live first. Claim the Shopify store, activate payments, and publish the Lovable project, so the catalog and checkout are proven.
- Decide whether you need Android. If not, a native iPhone route such as Superapp keeps costs lowest; if yes, look at Tapcart, MobiLoud, or Median.
- Keep Shopify as the single source of truth. Products, prices, and inventory should come from Shopify, not be copied into the app by hand.
- Use Apple Pay or card checkout for physical products, as guideline 3.1.3(e) requires.
- Give the app something the website lacks, such as push notifications for drops or saved carts, to clear guideline 4.2.
- Register an Apple Developer account at $99 a year, under your business if your tool requires it, then submit.
- Promote the app to existing customers on the Lovable site and in order emails, since apps mostly bring back repeat buyers.
Decide in five questions
- Do you need Shopify theme apps (reviews, subscriptions, loyalty) on day one? If yes, consider a Shopify theme or Shopify's AI store builder before Lovable.
- Is the web store live and selling? If not, launch it before building an app.
- Do you need Android at launch? If no, Superapp is the cheapest native iPhone route. If yes, keep going.
- Is your budget $500 a month or more? If yes, Tapcart or MobiLoud gives you both platforms with little work.
- Are you technical with a Mac? If yes, Capacitor is a free wrapper; if you have iOS developers, the Shopify iOS Buy SDK gives full control.
Common mistakes with Lovable Shopify stores
- Leaving the development store unclaimed past 30 days and losing it.
- Assuming a Shopify review or subscription app will work before testing it with the Lovable storefront.
- Budgeting only the Lovable plan and forgetting the Shopify plan, credits, and payment fees.
- Planning to switch to a Shopify theme later without realizing it means rebuilding the storefront.
- Shipping a plain wrapper of the Lovable site and getting rejected under guideline 4.2.
- Selling physical products through in-app purchase instead of Apple Pay or card checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Lovable Shopify integration?
It is a Lovable feature, launched October 20, 2025, that builds a custom storefront from a chat description and connects it to Shopify, which handles products, payments, inventory, and orders.
Can I connect Lovable to an existing Shopify store?
Yes. Current Lovable docs let you sign in to Shopify, pick a store you have access to, and install the Lovable app. At launch the integration only supported new stores.
Is the Lovable Shopify integration free?
You can build on a free sandbox store and Lovable's free plan, but the sandbox cannot take real payments. To sell, you claim the store, use the free Shopify trial, then pay for a Shopify plan, and custom domains need a paid Lovable plan from $25 a month.
How much does a Lovable Shopify store cost per year?
About $648 a year with Lovable Pro and Shopify Basic billed yearly, before trial discounts, extra credits, and payment fees. Adding a native iPhone app with Superapp Pro and Apple's fee brings it to about $1,047.
Which Shopify plan do I need for a Lovable store?
Any paid Shopify plan lets you keep selling after the trial. Basic is $39 a month or $29 billed yearly, Grow is $105 or $79, and Advanced is $399 or $299.
What happens if I do not claim my Lovable Shopify store?
Shopify deletes development stores that stay unclaimed for 30 days, and a deleted store cannot be claimed.
Can I edit a Lovable store in Shopify's theme editor?
No. The storefront is a custom site, not a Shopify theme, so you change the design in Lovable. Products, orders, and settings are still managed in Shopify Admin.
Do Shopify apps work with a Lovable storefront?
Many do not plug in directly. Apps built for Liquid themes, such as many review, upsell, subscription, and loyalty apps, often do not work out of the box with a Lovable storefront. Check each app before you build.
Can I move a Lovable store to a Shopify theme later?
Yes, but you would rebuild the storefront, because the Lovable site is custom code, not a theme. Your products, customers, and orders stay in Shopify.
Is Lovable better than Shopify?
They do different jobs. Lovable builds the storefront and Shopify runs the commerce, so the real choice is between a Lovable storefront on Shopify, a standard Shopify theme, and Shopify's own AI store builder.
What is the difference between Lovable and Shopify's AI store builder?
Shopify's AI store builder, launched in May 2025, generates a storefront inside Shopify that you edit in Shopify's editor. Lovable generates a custom site outside Shopify's theme system, which gives more design freedom but loses theme apps and the editor.
Can Lovable make an iPhone app for my Shopify store?
No. Lovable builds web apps only. Because the store data lives in Shopify, you can add a native app with Superapp, Tapcart, MobiLoud, Median, Capacitor, or the Shopify iOS Buy SDK.
What is the cheapest way to get a Lovable Shopify store on iPhone?
Superapp's free credits plus Apple's $99 a year is the lowest-cost native route. Capacitor is free software but needs a Mac, Xcode, and technical skills, and a plain wrapper risks App Store rejection.
Do I need a Mac to turn a Lovable store into an iOS app?
Not for every route. Superapp runs in the browser, and managed services like MobiLoud and Median's full-service plan handle the build. Capacitor requires Xcode, which runs only on a Mac.
Will Apple accept a wrapped Lovable store as an app?
It may not. Apple's guideline 4.2 rejects apps that are little more than a repackaged website, so wrapped stores need app-only features such as push notifications and native navigation to stand a good chance.
Can an iPhone app and a Lovable storefront share the same products?
Yes. Products, inventory, and orders live in Shopify, so a separate iOS app can sell from the same store. How it reads the catalog depends on the tool: Tapcart syncs with Shopify, the Shopify iOS Buy SDK uses the Storefront API, and Superapp connects through Supabase or your own API.
Can I take Apple Pay in a Lovable store's iPhone app?
Yes. Apple names Apple Pay as an accepted method for physical goods under guideline 3.1.3(e), and Superapp, Tapcart, and the Shopify iOS Buy SDK all support Apple Pay checkout.
Can several people work on a Lovable Shopify project?
Yes, but each collaborator connects their own Shopify account, and their permissions follow their Shopify role. Ecommerce Platforms reports that only one person can write Shopify data and others become read-only after a store is claimed.
