Superapp Selfdrive is the fastest way to do App Store optimization if you would rather approve changes than research them: its AI agent researches keywords from proprietary data and your Apple Ads results, drafts your app name, subtitle, keyword field and description with a reason for each change, runs Apple Ads within your budget, and sends a daily report, and nothing goes live until you accept it. If you do ASO yourself, this guide covers every lever Apple gives you in 2026: how App Store search ranks apps, how to choose and place keywords, how to design an icon, screenshots and previews that convert, the new iOS 27 product page headers and search result assets, ratings and reviews, product page optimization tests, custom product pages, In-App Events, localization, getting featured, measuring results in App Store Connect, real case studies with numbers, the mistakes that cost rankings, and a 90-day plan. It is built on Apple's own documentation, checked in October 2026, and every quote is copied word for word from its source.
App Store Optimization: The Short Answer
Superapp Selfdrive covers the text and Apple Ads side of ASO for founders who want it done: keyword research, metadata drafts for approval, Apple Ads, and a daily report. Whoever does the work, ASO comes down to two jobs. Visibility: make Apple's search understand what your app does, using your name, subtitle, keyword field, category and localizations, so you appear for the searches that matter. Conversion: make people who see you tap and download, using your icon, screenshots, previews, ratings and product page. Apple Ads ties the two together, because ad search terms show which keywords convert. Then you measure in App Store Connect and repeat about once a month.
Quick answer: what is App Store optimization and how do you do it? App Store optimization (ASO) is improving how often your app appears in App Store search and how often people who see it download it. Superapp Selfdrive's AI agent does the keyword and metadata work and runs Apple Ads, with your approval for every listing change. To do it yourself: (1) research keywords and put your main phrase in the 30-character name, secondary phrases in the 30-character subtitle and other words in the 100-byte keyword field; (2) design an icon and first three screenshots that explain your app at a glance; (3) ask for ratings at happy moments (up to three prompts a year) and reply to reviews; (4) A/B test icons and screenshots with product page optimization and build custom product pages; (5) localize for your biggest markets; (6) measure search impressions, conversion and downloads in App Store Connect, wait about four weeks, and repeat.
What Is App Store Optimization (ASO)?
Superapp Selfdrive defines the job the way Apple's rules do: make your app discoverable for the right searches and convincing once people see it. App Store optimization is the App Store's version of SEO. It covers everything on your product page and in your metadata that affects where you rank and whether people download.
Apple describes the two halves in its own words. On visibility: "Search results are based on a number of factors, including text relevance (matches for your app's title, subtitle, keywords, and primary category), as well as user behavior (downloads, ratings and reviews, and more)" (Apple Developer). On conversion: "Your app icon is one of the first elements of your app that users see," and "Depending on the orientation of your screenshots, the first one to three images will appear in search results when no app preview is available, so make sure these highlight the essence of your app" (Apple Developer).

Why ASO Matters in 2026
Superapp Selfdrive focuses on search because that is where most App Store downloads start. Apple says "Over 850 million people visit the App Store every week," "70% of App Store visitors use search to discover apps," and "Almost 65% of downloads happen directly after a search" (Apple Ads). The weekly-visitor figure is from 2026; the search figures are from 2022, the latest Apple has published.
Treat the 65% with care. Developer Matt Lacey pointed out years ago, "There is a fundamental difference between searching for a specific app and searching for an app that does a specific task," and "If I know the app I want, the quickest way to find it is to search for it by name in the store" (Matt Lacey). Brand searches are part of that 65%. The share that comes from generic searches like habit tracker is smaller, but it is exactly the share ASO can win for a new app.
Sensor Tower's study of download sources found that "Only 56 percent of game downloads during our study period were from a search on the App Store, compared to 69 percent for non-game apps," and that browse rose to "more than 15 percent" after Apple's 2017 redesign (Sensor Tower). For many indie apps, search is nearly everything: HabitKit's developer Sebastian Röhl says, "Nowadays, ~98% of my new users find my apps directly on the App Store or Google Play" (Indie Hackers).
How App Store Search Ranks Apps
Superapp Selfdrive's drafts are built around the two factors Apple names: text relevance and user behavior.
Text relevance
Apple lists the fields it matches: your "title, subtitle, keywords, and primary category." It also says "Your primary category and optional secondary category are indexed by our search algorithm," and App Store Connect adds, "Your app is searchable by app name and company name, so you shouldn't duplicate these values in the keyword list" (Apple Developer, App Store Connect Help). The description is not on Apple's text-relevance list, and Apple says "Don't add unnecessary keywords to your description in an attempt to improve search results."
User behavior
Apple names "downloads, ratings and reviews, and more." On ratings specifically: "Ratings and reviews appear on your product page and in search results, and can influence how your app ranks in App Store search" (Apple Developer). This is why conversion matters for ranking too: an app that converts well earns more downloads, which helps it rank, which earns more impressions.
What appears in search results
"Elements of your App Store product page that appear in search results include your app name, subtitle, screenshots, and more," and "Your app's rating and up to three screenshots or app previews may display in search results depending on the platform and image orientation." Search results can also include in-app purchases, In-App Events and custom product pages: "This includes developer cards, Apple In-App Purchases, In-App Events, and custom product pages." And since iOS 26, "Search results may also include app tags, which help people understand more about your app or game's essential qualities," which "are generated using large language models (LLMs) based on the metadata you've provided in App Store Connect" (Apple Developer). Apple does not say whether developers can control tags or whether they affect ranking.
Ads share the results page
Search results also show ads. Apple renamed Apple Search Ads to Apple Ads in April 2025 ("Our ad offerings have grown beyond search."), and in December 2025 announced, "Early next year, we'll begin running additional ads in search results," which "will appear further down in search results" (Apple Ads News). More ads mean fewer organic slots near the top, which makes ranking first for your key phrases, and defending your brand name, more valuable.

Part 1: Visibility. Keywords and Metadata
Superapp Selfdrive's ASO agent does this part: "Selfdrive combines proprietary keyword data, your Apple Ads results and competing listings," "The agent proposes metadata changes with a reason for each recommendation," and "Nothing is submitted as an approved listing update until you accept it" (Selfdrive ASO). For the full method, see our App Store keyword research guide; here is the summary every ASO plan needs.
The fields and their limits
| Field | Superapp Selfdrive | Limit | Apple's guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| App name | Superapp Selfdrive: brand plus main phrase, drafted for approval | 30 characters | "Choose a simple, memorable name that is easy to spell and hints at what your app does." |
| Subtitle | Drafts secondary phrases | 30 characters | "Your app's subtitle is intended to summarize your app in a concise phrase." |
| Keyword field | Drafts single words without repeats | 100 bytes | "Keywords are limited to 100 characters total, with terms separated by commas and no spaces." |
| Category | n/a | Primary and optional secondary | "Choosing categories that aren't relevant is grounds for rejection by App Review." |
| Promotional text | n/a | 170 characters | "promotional text doesn't affect your app's search ranking so it should not be used to display keywords." |
| Description | Can draft it | 4,000 characters | "The ideal description is a concise, informative paragraph followed by a short list of main features." |
Sources: Apple: product page, Apple: search, App Store Connect Help.
The rules that cost people rankings
- No repeats. Do not repeat words from your name, subtitle, category or company name in the keyword field.
- No plurals of words you already used. Apple says plurals "are considered duplicates."
- No "app", no filler. Apple lists "Generic terms that are too broad for your app or category, such as "app" or "game."" and "Filler words like "the" and "to," as these don't add any additional value."
- No competitors or trademarks. "Improper use of keywords is a common reason for App Store rejections," including "Unauthorized use of trademarked terms, celebrity names, or other protected words and phrases" and "Competing app names."
- No stuffing. Guideline 2.3.7 says don't "pack any of your metadata with trademarked terms, popular app names, pricing information, or other irrelevant phrases just to game the system," and "Apple may modify inappropriate keywords at any time or take other appropriate steps to prevent abuse" (App Review Guidelines).
One word can matter. A developer on Apple's forums wrote, "Our app, after a keyword change (replaced word "loss" with "lost") on the US App Store, stopped being returned in App Store search results on a different two-word search with the word "tracker."" Before, "For both two-word searches, our app was returned in top-5 results previously" (Apple Developer Forums). Another app was rejected under guideline 2.3.7 for a name containing "Free"; a fellow developer replied, "It seems that having that anywhere in your app's metadata will result in rejection" (Apple Developer Forums).
Choosing keywords
Apple's own framing: "Consider the trade-off between ranking well for less common terms versus ranking lower for popular terms," because "Less common terms drive lower traffic, but are less competitive" (Apple Developer). New apps usually win by owning specific phrases first. HabitKit's developer put his main keyword in the name ("I incorporated it first things first into the app name") and "After just a month on the App Store, I reached the top 10 in the UK," adding, "Being in the top 3 for certain keywords - instead of the top 10 - is really a game changer" (Substack).
Name changes can trade one ranking for another. When Peter Sutarik retitled his app ReelMeal to lead with video to recipe ("Anchor first, brand last."), "US conversion (first-time downloads per impression) went from 0.19% to 0.45%," but ""cooking video to recipe" fell from #21 to outside the top 100 when "cooking" left the keyword field" (Sonar).
Part 2: Localization
Superapp Selfdrive does not localize listings, so this lever is yours. Localization is the largest visibility lever most indie developers never touch, because each language gets its own name, subtitle and keyword field.
Apple says: "If you localize your app metadata in French, the French localization displays to users whose language setting is in French," and "Users can search for your app using localized keywords in all countries or regions where the App Store supports French" (App Store Connect Help). Apple's App Store localizations table lists the languages each storefront supports; for the United States it lists Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Mexico) and Vietnamese alongside English (App Store Connect Help). Since March 31, 2026, "App Store Connect now supports localized metadata for 11 new languages, bringing the total number of supported localizations to 50" (App Store Connect).
| Localization result | Superapp Selfdrive | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partial localization into US secondary locale | Superapp Selfdrive: not included (you localize) | "Downloads in the United States grew by 52%" and "impressions in US search results grew by 56%" | AppFollow (vendor) |
| Pedometer++ localized into several languages | n/a | Boosted downloads outside English-speaking countries "by around 300% and overall downloads by 60%" | David Smith (independent) |
| Pedometer++ German and Russian | n/a | "12x and 19x better respectively" | David Smith |
| ReelMeal, 29 languages with an AI agent | n/a | "Downloads went 19 to 90 a month, then it erased 21 top-10 ranks." | Sonar (vendor) |
| Paper by FiftyThree, Chinese screenshots | n/a | "Localized screenshots for app store performed 33% better than the English ones." | SplitMetrics (vendor) |
| Plants vs. Zombies, Chinese version | n/a | "We're selling twice as many copies now, in Chinese, than we ever sold in English." | Sensor Tower (vendor) |
Sources: AppFollow, David Smith, Sonar, SplitMetrics, Sensor Tower.
The ReelMeal story carries a warning. After the localization doubled downloads, the next update made "the top-10 count fell from 143 to 124 overnight," because "most were exact phrases from the version 1.2 names and subtitles, and version 1.3 replaced those fields." Changing localized names and subtitles resets the rankings tied to them. David Smith also noted that earlier, poorly chosen localizations meant "added cost and complexity never really paid off": pick languages where you have users or demand.
Part 3: Conversion. Icon, Screenshots, Previews and Creative Assets
Superapp Selfdrive does not make visual assets ("Screenshot production is not included in this ASO workflow."), so this is the part you or a designer own. It is also where small changes move numbers most.
Your app icon
Apple's guidance: "To ensure the icon is legible in all sizes, avoid adding unnecessary visual details" (Apple Developer). The Human Interface Guidelines add, "Embrace simplicity in your icon design," "Simple icons tend to be easiest for people to understand and recognize," and "Text in icons doesn't support accessibility or localization, is often too small to read easily, and can make an icon appear cluttered" (Apple HIG).
Since 2025, icons follow Liquid Glass: "These icons take on Liquid Glass attributes like specular highlights, refraction, and translucency," and "In iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, people can choose whether their Home Screen app icons are default, dark, clear, or tinted in appearance." Apple's tool for this is Icon Composer, which "lets you create layered icons out of Liquid Glass from a single design for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch" (Icon Composer). The App Store icon is 1024 by 1024 pixels. For tools, see our guide to AI app icon generators.
Icons are testable, and the winner is often not the one you expect. In Apple's own Peak Brain Training example, the team expected a robot icon to win; it lost (about -3.5%) while a brain icon won by 8% at over 98% confidence over 44 days (Apple). FoodNoms' founder tested a new icon and reported a conversion rate "10% higher" (FoodNoms), though he stopped at 81.7% confidence, below the 90% Apple recommends.
Screenshots
Apple: "You can feature up to 10 screenshots on your App Store and Mac App Store product pages," and depending on orientation "the first one to three images will appear in search results when no app preview is available." Its 2026 asset guide is blunt: "Lead with your best features" (Apple asset best practices). "Focus each subsequent screenshot on a main benefit or feature so that you fully convey your app's value." Guideline 2.3.3 sets a floor: "Screenshots should show the app in use, and not merely the title art, login page, or splash screen."
Required sizes changed in 2026. Apple no longer labels screenshot sizes in inches. App Store Connect says, "To submit your app, you must provide screenshots for the following required display sizes:" "At least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)," plus "At least one screenshot for iPad 13-inch display" if your app supports iPad (App Store Connect Help).
| Screenshot size | Superapp Selfdrive | Pixels (portrait) | Required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) | Superapp Selfdrive: not included; you upload screenshots | 1206 x 2622 or 1179 x 2556 | Yes |
| iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display) | n/a | 1320 x 2868, 1290 x 2796 or 1260 x 2736 | Optional |
| iPhone with Face ID (large display) | n/a | 1284 x 2778 or 1242 x 2688 | Optional |
| iPad 13-inch | n/a | 2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732 | Yes, for iPad apps |
| iPhone Duo (outer display) | n/a | 1398 x 2034 | Required from April 2027 for apps on the iOS 27.1 SDK or later |
| iPhone Duo (inner display) | n/a | 2007 x 2853 | Same |
"If your app's user interface is consistent across multiple device sizes and localizations, you only need to provide screenshots for the highest required resolution," and "App Store Connect automatically scales them down for smaller device sizes." Screenshots can be .jpeg, .jpg or .png and "Images can't include alpha channels or transparencies." For iPhone Duo, "When you submit iPhone Duo screenshots in App Store Connect, your App Store product page will display a badge to let people know your app is optimized for iPhone Duo."
Screenshot tests have produced some of the biggest published gains, all from vendors or agencies: SplitMetrics reports "the new design of screenshots for app store improved conversions by 33%" for Paper by FiftyThree (SplitMetrics), and MC Saatchi Performance says that "after 15 sets of A/B testing" for Headspace, "the organic conversion rate improved by +34% compared to the previous period" (MC Saatchi Performance).
App previews (video)
"Previews can be up to 30 seconds long and use footage captured on the device to show the experience of using your app," and "You can feature up to three app previews." They matter because "App previews display and autoplay on your product page and within search results, and they can be used in Apple Ads," and "App previews autoplay with muted audio when users view your product page, so make sure the first few seconds of your video are visually compelling" (Apple). Rules: "App previews must show only content within the app itself," and "Don't film people interacting with a device, such as an over-the-shoulder angle or fingers tapping the screen." The minimum length is 15 seconds and files can be up to 500MB (App Store Connect Help).
A preview is not automatically a win. In Apple's own Simply Piano example, "The original product page without an app preview video outperformed the treatment, contrary to the developer's hypothesis" (Apple). Test it.
New in iOS 27: product page headers and search result assets
This is the biggest ASO change of 2026, and few guides cover it yet. Apple: "When someone lands on your product page, the first thing they'll notice is your header," and "Your search result asset is the first thing people experience when they find your app or game through the Search tab, before they ever reach your product page" (Apple asset best practices). In Apple's WWDC26 session: "Instead of showing the default app screenshots, you can use an impactful image or video, to make your app stand out in the Search Results" (WWDC26).
The practical change: in search, the default used to be your first one to three screenshots. "Creative assets appear across the App Store in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 and later including your product page, in search results, and when your app is featured," and "If you choose to not use a search result creative asset, your In-App Events, app previews, and screenshots will appear." Approved assets live in the new Asset Library and "are ready to be used across your app's Product Page Header and Search Results, without going through additional reviews," so you can "submit creative assets for approval today to use in a future seasonal campaign, then immediately use them once you're ready" (App Store Connect).
Rules: guideline 2.3.14 says "Creative assets must pertain to your app's content and functionality or overarching brand, follow standard metadata guidelines, and be appropriate for all audiences," and assets "must meet a 4+ age rating." Apple's advice: "Focus on a single, clear idea. Visually dense or cluttered assets dilute your impact." Users on iOS 26 and earlier still see screenshots, so keep those strong. Apple's new preview tool shows "how your creative assets, screenshots, and other metadata will appear on your product page and in search results before you submit them."
Promotional text, description and What's New
Promotional text appears at the top of the description, is up to 170 characters, and "You can update promotional text at any time without having to submit a new version of your app," which makes it the best place for timely messages like sales or new features. For the description, "The first sentence of your description is the most important," per Apple, because it is what people read without tapping more. Avoid "including specific prices in your app description." For updates, "List new features, content, or functionality in order of importance, and add call-to-action messaging that gets users excited about the update," and guideline 2.3.12 requires apps to "clearly describe new features and product changes in their "What's New" text" (Apple Developer).
Promoted in-app purchases
Apple: "You can choose to promote up to 20 Apple In-App Purchases at a time on your product page, with additional Apple In-App Purchases approved and ready to promote." "Each promoted in-app purchase requires a unique promotional image that best represents the Apple In-App Purchases," and "The file you upload will be a PNG or high-quality JPEG at 1024 x 1024 pixels" (Apple). Promoted purchases can show up in search results, so each one is another small storefront for your app. Note that consumable purchases do not appear in search.
Part 4: Testing. Product Page Optimization
Superapp Selfdrive's drafts give you text changes to try; Apple's product page optimization (PPO) tests the visuals. "A test can include up to three treatments with alternate app icons, screenshots, and app previews," and "A test runs for 90 days or until you manually stop it within that time." "You can create one test at a time which will run for up to 90 days," and treatments "will be shown to a percentage of randomly selected people on the App Store in iOS and iPadOS 15 or later, who will see the same treatment for the duration of your test" (Apple).
What you cannot test: your name, subtitle, keyword field or description. Text is not on Apple's list of testable elements, so text changes are measured before and after an update instead (one change at a time, about four weeks each).
| PPO rule | Superapp Selfdrive | Apple's words |
|---|---|---|
| Treatments | Superapp Selfdrive: drafts text changes; PPO is visuals only | "A test can include up to three treatments with alternate app icons, screenshots, and app previews." |
| Duration | n/a | "A test runs for 90 days or until you manually stop it within that time." |
| Confidence | n/a | "We recommend waiting to apply a treatment or stop a test until at least one treatment has been declared to be performing better or worse than the baseline with at least 90% confidence." |
| Review | n/a | "Before you can publish your test, any new metadata that you'd like to include in your treatments must be approved by App Review." |
| No icon, no new version | n/a | "Product page optimization tests that don't include any alternate app icons can be submitted for review independent of a new app version." |
| Icons | n/a | "If you plan to include any alternate app icons, you'll need to include all variants of your icon in the binary of your published app." |
| Applying the winner | n/a | "Based on your test results, you can choose to apply a treatment to your original product page so it displays to everyone on the App Store." |
Source: Apple: product page optimization.
How to run a good test:
- Test one idea per treatment. MC Saatchi Performance changed one creative element per test for Headspace (background, copy, a magnified feature) across 15 tests.
- Test big differences first. A new first screenshot or a new icon concept moves more than a color tweak.
- Wait for 90% confidence. FoodNoms stopped at 81.7%; its result may still be real, but it is not proven.
- Expect to be wrong. Peak's team expected the robot icon to win, and Simply Piano expected a preview video to help. Both hypotheses lost.
- Mind your traffic. A small app may need the full 90 days to reach confidence. With low traffic, test fewer treatments.
WWDC26 confirms PPO works with the new visuals: "Additionally, use Product Page Optimization in App Store Connect, to test different visuals and see exactly which ones your audience respond best to, whether it's your app's logo, core value or a new feature" (WWDC26).
Part 5: Custom Product Pages
Superapp Selfdrive runs Apple Ads, where custom product pages pay off most. Apple: "You can publish up to 70 additional versions of your product page on the App Store for iPhone and iPad," each of which "highlights a feature or specific content from your app and has a unique URL to share." You "Vary the screenshots, promotional text, and/or app previews on each product page to showcase specific features or content" (Apple).
Since October 29, 2025, custom pages also rank: "Additionally, you can now assign keywords to each custom product page so they're more discoverable on the App Store." Apple explains, "This lets your custom product page appear in search results for those selected keywords, rather than your default product page," and warns, "When assigning keywords, ensure the keywords you select match the intent of your custom product page and that each keyword combination is unique to a single product page." Other rules: "Deep links for custom product pages are supported in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, or later," and "Any metadata included in your custom product pages must be submitted for review, which you can do independent of an app update."
Apple's headline number: "Developers see a 2.5 percentage point increase on average when referring people to a custom product page," and "This is a 156% increase compared to the 1.6% average conversion rate on default product pages." Apple gives no date or method for those figures.
| Custom product page result | Superapp Selfdrive | Tap-through rate | Conversion rate | Cost per install |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple average | Superapp Selfdrive: runs Apple Ads within your budget | n/a | +2.5 points vs 1.6% default | n/a |
| Facetune ad variations | n/a | "45% higher tap-through rate for ad variations than default ad." | "8% higher conversion rate for ad variations than default ad." | "15% decrease in cost-per-install for ad variations than default ad." |
| HelloFresh ad variations | n/a | "42% higher tap-through rate for ad variations than default ad." | "9% higher conversion rate for ad variations than default ad." | "24% lower cost-per-install for ad variations than default ad." |
Sources: Apple: custom product pages, Facetune, HelloFresh. Both success stories note, "Any average CPA, conversion rate, or install metric referenced in this article is based on tap-through installs."
HelloFresh's Eugenio Fasano: "We tripled investment in Apple Ads because custom product pages allowed us to better customize our ads." Facetune's best Halloween variation "drove an install rate uplift of 22 percent compared with the previous year."
Good uses of custom product pages:
- One page per use case. A fitness app with pages for running, strength and yoga, each with matching screenshots and keywords.
- One page per ad group. Send each Apple Ads ad group to the page that matches its keywords.
- Seasonal pages. Holiday or back-to-school versions you can switch on without an app update.
- Tailored search assets. On iOS 27, "Using Custom Product Pages, you can also show a tailored asset for different search keywords, to make your app's search result more relevant and compelling" (WWDC26).
Part 6: In-App Events
Superapp Selfdrive does not create events; they are yours to plan. In-App Events are timely moments in your app (a challenge, a new season, a live event, a major update) that get their own cards on the App Store.
Apple's limits: "You can submit events for review independent of a new app version and have up to 15 approved events in App Store Connect at a time," "An app can have up to 10 events published on the App Store at a time," and "An In-App Event can last up to 31 days and be promoted up to 14 days before its start date." The name is "up to 30 characters long and written in title case" and the short description "up to 50 characters written in sentence case" (Apple).
Where they show: "In search results. When users search for an app, the event card appears along with your app for users who have downloaded your app, while screenshots show for those who haven't downloaded your app," and "When users search for an event, the event card appears along with your app." Events also appear "In editorially curated selections and personalized recommendations on the Today, Games, and Apps tabs," and "You can also share your In-App Event with our worldwide team of editors for promotional consideration on the App Store." Media is needed in two shapes: "You need media for the event card (16:9 landscape) and the event details page (9:16 portrait)" (Apple asset best practices). Guideline 2.3.13: "All event metadata must be accurate and pertain to the event itself, rather than the app more generally."
| In-App Event result | Superapp Selfdrive | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phiture client, two events | Superapp Selfdrive: not included (you plan events) | "a massive increase of over 50% in their impressions and First-Time Downloads" | Phiture (agency) |
| Phiture, Event #1 vs Event #2 | n/a | "The spike in the number of First-Time Downloads was significant for Event #1, yet comparatively very slight for Event #2" | Phiture |
| Tao Shopping, Japan | n/a | "After the in-app event was featured on the Japanese App Store, Tao Shopping experienced a 10x increase in downloads" | AppTweak (vendor) |
The Tao Shopping 10x came from being featured, not from the event alone. Plan events as a steady calendar (one a month is a good rhythm for most apps), and nominate the bigger ones for featuring.
Part 7: Ratings and Reviews
Superapp Selfdrive's morning email summarizes your App Store Connect analytics; ratings are earned in the app itself. They matter twice: "Individual ratings inform your app's summary rating, which is displayed on your product page and in search results," and "Ratings and reviews appear on your product page and in search results, and can influence how your app ranks in App Store search" (Apple, Apple search).
Asking for ratings
The rules: "You can prompt for ratings up to three times in a 365-day period," and guideline 5.6.1 says "Use the provided API to prompt users to review your app," adding "we will disallow custom review prompts." Guideline 3.2.2(x): "Apps must not force users to rate the app, review the app, download other apps, or other store-related actions in order to access functionality, content, or use of the app."
Timing is the whole game. Apple: "Make the request when users are most likely to feel satisfaction with your app, such as when they've completed an action, level, or task," and "Make sure not to interrupt their activity." Apple's StoreKit docs add, "Avoid showing a request for a review immediately when a user launches your app, even if it isn't the first time it launches," and "Avoid requesting a review as the result of a user action." Note that "the system displays the review prompt to a user a maximum of three times within a 365-day period," and people can turn prompts off entirely, so a call to the API does not always show a prompt (Apple StoreKit).
| Ratings prompt result | Superapp Selfdrive | Change | Result | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordBoard | Superapp Selfdrive: not included (in-app prompts are yours) | Prompted after one added key | "a more than 400% boost in ratings per month!" | Appbot (vendor, own apps) |
| WordBoard rating | n/a | Same | "The average rating historically hovers around 4.84 stars and it remained there even with more frequent prompting." | Appbot |
| 7 Minute Workout, onboarding prompt | n/a | Moved prompt to end of onboarding | "However, we saw a big drop in the velocity of ratings." | Appbot |
| 7 Minute Workout, after first workout | n/a | Moved back | "prompting after the first workout led to a significant improvement in rating velocity." | Appbot |
| Indie app adding a prompt | n/a | Added in-app ratings prompt | "It increased the number of ratings from about 75 per day to 250 per day." | Indie Hackers commenter |
| Apple's API launch, all apps | n/a | SKStoreReviewController | "the median number of app ratings has risen 15%." | Apptentive via Marketing Dive |
Sources: Appbot 2023, Appbot 2025, Indie Hackers, Marketing Dive.
The Appbot pair is the clearest lesson in this guide. Stuart Hall wrote, "We had been prompting for ratings after a workout for a long time, but then we blindly followed the common advice," moved the prompt to the end of onboarding, and lost rating velocity. Ask after a person gets value, not before.
Responding to reviews
"You can respond to all reviews of your app, regardless of when they were written, in App Store Connect," and "When you respond, the reviewer is notified and has the option to update their review." Apple's advice: "The ideal response is concise and clearly addresses your customer's feedback," and "When possible, we recommend personalizing your responses rather than using generic responses for similar reviews." Practical limits: "Only one response per review appears on your App Store product page," and "Responses may take up to 24 hours to appear on the App Store" (App Store Connect Help). Guideline 5.6.1: "Keep your responses targeted to the user's comments and do not include personal information, spam, or marketing in your response."
Does replying help? The best study is on Google Play, not the App Store: researchers found "responding to a review often has a positive effect on the rating" and concluded, "Our findings show that it can be worthwhile for app owners to respond to reviews, as responding may lead to an increase in the given rating" (Empirical Software Engineering, 2018). Focus replies on one-star and two-star reviews that describe a bug you have fixed.
Resetting your rating
"This summary rating is specific to each territory on the App Store and you can reset it when you release a new version of your app." Apple adds, "However, we recommend using this feature sparingly." Three catches from App Store Connect Help: "When you reset your app's overview rating, it affects all regions or countries simultaneously," "it won't apply to written customer reviews, which will continue to display on the App Store," and "Once you release the new version of your app, you won't be able to restore the previous rating" (App Store Connect Help). Reset only after a version that truly fixes what people complained about, because you also lose the rating count that builds trust.
AI review summaries
New in 2025 and 2026: "Generated using large language models (LLMs), each summary compiles highlights and key information from individual user reviews into a short paragraph." "As part of a phased rollout, this feature is now available in 8 new storefronts, in addition to the United States," with "English summaries in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom." You cannot edit a summary: "You can tap and hold the summary to report a concern on the App Store or report a concern in App Store Connect" (Apple). The ASO takeaway: recurring complaints now get summarized at the top of your page, so fixing the most common complaint is also a conversion fix.
What not to do
Apple's Section 3 warning: "If we find that you have attempted to manipulate reviews, inflate your chart rankings with paid, incentivized, filtered, or fake feedback, or engage with third-party services to do so on your behalf, we will take steps to preserve the integrity of the App Store, which may include expelling you from the Apple Developer Program." Guideline 5.6.3: "Manipulating any element of the App Store customer experience such as charts, search, reviews, or referrals to your app erodes customer trust and is not permitted" (App Review Guidelines). That rules out paid reviews, review swaps and filtering unhappy users away from the prompt.
Part 8: Getting Featured
Superapp Selfdrive cannot get you featured; App Store editors decide. Apple says, "While there's no checklist of requirements for getting featured on the App Store, our team considers the following factors:"
| Featuring factor | Superapp Selfdrive | Apple's description |
|---|---|---|
| User experience | Superapp Selfdrive: not a factor it controls | "Cohesive, efficient, and valuable functionality that's helpful and easy to use." |
| UI design | n/a | "Great usability, appeal, and overall quality, such as beautiful visuals or intuitive gestures and controls." |
| Innovation | n/a | "New technologies that solve a unique problem and provide an enhanced user experience." |
| Uniqueness | n/a | "A fresh approach to a familiar category that stands out from the crowd or defines a new genre." |
| Accessibility | n/a | "A great experience for a broad range of users with well integrated features." |
| Localization | n/a | "High-quality support for multiple languages with culturally relevant and appropriate content." |
| App Store product page | Drafts the text parts of your product page | "Compelling screenshots, app previews, and descriptions, as well as positive ratings and reviews." |
Source: Apple: getting featured.
How to ask: "You can use Featuring Nominations in App Store Connect to share your new content, app enhancement, or app launch with our team." On timing, Apple's two pages disagree: the developer page asks for at least two weeks, while App Store Connect Help says "we recommend submitting plans as early as possible, with a minimum lead time of 3 weeks." Plan on three weeks, and "For wider featuring consideration, we recommend submitting a nomination up to three months in advance." Old apps qualify too: "All apps and games are eligible for App of the Day and Game of the Day stories, whether they're brand new or have been around for a decade."
| Featuring result | Superapp Selfdrive | Lift | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game of the Day (US, 2017 to 2018) | Superapp Selfdrive: not included | "increased by more than 800 percent for the week following the feature" | Sensor Tower (vendor) |
| App of the Day | n/a | "Median downloads for Apps of the Day increased by over 685 percent" | Sensor Tower |
| Stories and lists | n/a | "experienced median download growth of about 200 percent" | Sensor Tower |
| Apps already in their category top 20 | n/a | Average download boost of 44% | Apptopia (vendor) |
| Slopes, App of the Day | n/a | "~19k downloads the first day, and I ranked #3 in sports over the weekend." | Curtis Herbert (independent) |
| Slopes, total effect | n/a | "a total of 35k additional downloads over what I would have seen otherwise" | Curtis Herbert |
Sources: Sensor Tower, Apptopia, Slopes Diaries.
Two cautions. Featuring helps small apps far more than ones already in the top 20 ("Apps that were already ranking within the top 20 of their respective category" averaged a 44% boost). And downloads are not revenue: Herbert wrote, "I'd love to say this 25% spike in downloads led to a spike in revenue," before explaining it did not. Featuring is a bonus you prepare for (good design, accessibility, localization, a strong page), not a plan.
Part 9: The ASO and Apple Ads Loop
Superapp Selfdrive was built around this loop: "it picks keywords, sets bids within your budget, and pauses what isn't working," and "Then it uses the results to improve your App Store listing" (Selfdrive Apple Ads). Keyword tools estimate demand. Apple Ads shows you, with real spend, which searches turn into downloads for your app. That makes ads the best keyword research you can buy.
Developer Dan Fabulich put it simply years ago: "Then set a reasonable budget, buy those terms, and see which ones convert best," because ad results "can tell you which terms to directly incorporate into your limited-space keywords list," and "Then, if you're lucky and good, you can start ranking for those terms organically" (Hacker News). Ukrainian developer Oleksandr Bondar, who runs ASO across 29 localizations for his app, wrote (translated) that he uses Apple Ads not only as an acquisition channel but as a research tool ("я використовую ASA не тільки як канал залучення, а як інструмент дослідження.") (DOU).
| Loop step | Superapp Selfdrive | DIY | Apple's guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Find candidate terms | Superapp Selfdrive: "The agent researches search terms relevant to your app" | Brainstorm, keyword tool, Search Match | "You can also use broad match in discovery campaigns when you want to find new keywords." |
| 2. Buy them in exact match | "Within the approved campaign, the agent researches keywords, adjusts bids, reviews results and pauses poor performers." | Build campaigns and set bids yourself | "Put discovery, category, competitor, and brand keywords into individual campaigns or ad groups." |
| 3. Read conversion by term | "It uses that evidence to test new terms, adjust bids and retire weak performers." | Export reports weekly | "Check individual keyword performance regularly to determine which terms are performing well and which aren't." |
| 4. Cut waste | "A keyword with weak conversion was paused after review." | Add negatives by hand | "To avoid paying for taps that are unlikely to convert to downloads, add non-performers as negative keywords." |
| 5. Move winners into metadata | "Then it uses the results to improve your App Store listing" | Rewrite name, subtitle, keywords | n/a |
| 6. Approve and measure | "Nothing is submitted as an approved listing update until you accept it." | Compare before and after yourself | n/a |
Sources: Selfdrive Apple Ads, Selfdrive ASO, Apple Ads keyword best practices.
Two parts of the loop need patience. Metadata changes take weeks to settle (Bondar says rank stabilization takes "4-8 тижнів," 4 to 8 weeks), and Apple asks you to "let Maximize Conversions campaigns run for at least two weeks before assessing their impact" (Apple Ads). Once you rank in the top few results organically for a term, you can lower or pause its bid and spend on the next one. Apple Ads also does not exist everywhere: "Apple Ads does not run in every country," so in those markets the loop runs on keyword data alone.
For the full ads side, read our guides to Apple Ads Basic vs Advanced and the best Apple Ads tools.
Part 10: Measuring ASO in App Store Connect
Superapp Selfdrive's report is built on the same numbers: "The morning email summarizes App Store Connect analytics, downloads, ad spend and campaign results," and the ASO agent will "Compare available App Store Connect metrics before and after an update" (Selfdrive). Whether you use it or not, learn Apple's definitions first, because third-party numbers often use different ones.
| Metric | Superapp Selfdrive | Apple's definition |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions | Superapp Selfdrive: summarized in the morning email | "The number of times your app was viewed on the Today, Games, Apps, and Search tabs of the App Store for more than one second. Includes product page views." |
| Impressions (Unique Devices) | n/a | "The number of unique devices that have viewed your app on the Today, Games, Apps, and Search tabs of the App Store. Includes unique product page views." |
| Product Page Views | n/a | "The total number of times your App Store product page was viewed. Includes when apps use StoreKit to load your product page." |
| Conversion Rate | n/a | "Total downloads and pre-orders divided by unique device impressions." |
| Total Downloads | Summarized daily | "The sum of First Time Downloads and Redownloads." |
| Sessions | n/a | "The number of times the app has been used for at least two seconds." |
Source: App Store Connect Help: app metrics.
Know where traffic comes from. App Store search means "Users viewed your app or downloaded it from search on the App Store. Includes views and downloads from ads that appear in App Store search results." Browse is "Users viewed your app or tapped to download it while browsing the App Store (for example, in the Today, Games, or Apps sections)." Web referrer is "Users tapped a link from a website that brought them to your App Store product page" (App Store Connect Help). Because search includes ad traffic, subtract your Apple Ads installs to estimate organic search.
The 2025 and 2026 analytics overhaul
Apple called the March 2026 release its "biggest update since its launch." The WWDC25 session added "over 100 new metrics to measure your In-App Purchases, subscriptions, and offers," and "App Analytics now allows you to add up to seven different filters to any metric, more than doubling what was previously available" (WWDC25). For ASO, the useful parts are feature analytics ("App Store feature analytics now appear in the middle of the overview page, so you can immediately see how the top custom product pages and In-App Events impact your app's performance") and peer benchmarks.
Peer benchmarks are the only fair comparison: "Benchmarks compare your app's metrics against aggregated performance data from a peer group of similar apps," and "In each metric widget, you can view how your app compares to your peer group's 25th, 50th, and 75th percentile values." They cover conversion rate, retention, crash rate and monetization metrics, and Apple uses "a technique called differential privacy" so no single app's data is exposed (App Store Connect Help). Apple publishes no values outside your account.
What is a good App Store conversion rate?
Superapp Selfdrive does not promise a number, and neither should anyone else: "Keyword research does not guarantee a rank or a number of downloads." Published figures disagree because definitions differ.
| Benchmark | Superapp Selfdrive | Figure | Definition and caveat | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your peer group | Superapp Selfdrive: tracks your own before and after | 25th, 50th, 75th percentile | Apple's own conversion rate; best comparison | App Store Connect |
| AppTweak, US, 2025 | n/a | 8.56% average | Page view to download; same page also cites 25% | AppTweak (vendor) |
| AppTweak, highest category | n/a | "with an average CVR of 52.8%" | Food & Drink | AppTweak |
| AppTweak, lowest category | n/a | "with an average CVR of 5.2%" | Trivia games | AppTweak |
| AppTweak install rate | n/a | "the average install rate on the US App Store was 3.8%" | Impression to install | AppTweak |
| AppTweak, US, H1 2024 | n/a | 25% | Older method; do not treat as a trend | Adapty citing AppTweak |
| Apple default product page | n/a | 1.6% | No definition or date given | Apple |
| Apple Ads, top of search | n/a | Over 60% | Tap to install, not organic | Apple |
| Apple Ads, 2024 average | n/a | "The cumulative average, at 66.70%, wrapped up 2024 at an all-time high" | Tap to install | MobileAction (vendor) |
Sources: AppTweak, Adapty, Apple: custom product pages, Apple Ads, MobileAction.
Use your own trend and your peer group. Change one thing, wait about four weeks, and compare the same metric over the same length of time.
ASO Case Studies at a Glance

Common ASO Mistakes
Superapp Selfdrive's drafts avoid the text mistakes; the rest are on you.
| Mistake | Superapp Selfdrive | Why it hurts | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Repeating words across name, subtitle and keyword field | Superapp Selfdrive: drafts single words without repeats | Wastes your 160 characters of indexed text | Use each word once |
| Adding plurals or "app" | n/a | Apple treats plurals as duplicates and generic words add nothing | Spend the bytes on new words |
| Competitor names or trademarks | Drafts match your app's actual purpose | "Improper use of keywords is a common reason for App Store rejections" | Never use them |
| "Free" or prices in the name | n/a | Rejected under 2.3.7 | Put offers in promotional text |
| Changing many fields at once | Proposes changes with a reason for each | You cannot tell what worked | One change per update, then wait about four weeks |
| Rewriting localized names that already rank | n/a | ReelMeal lost 21 top-10 ranks overnight | Keep ranking phrases when you rewrite |
| Login or splash screens as screenshots | Not included (visual assets) | Guideline 2.3.3 and low conversion | Show the app in use, best feature first |
| Asking for a rating during onboarding | n/a | Appbot's rating velocity dropped | Ask after a completed task |
| Stopping PPO tests early | n/a | Results below 90% confidence may be noise | Wait for Apple's confidence call |
| Ignoring custom product pages | Runs Apple Ads | Ads land on a generic page | Match each ad group to a page |
| Expecting featuring | n/a | Editors decide | Nominate three weeks ahead, never plan on it |
| Doing ASO once | Daily report, recurring work | Rankings and competitors move | Review monthly |
ASO Myths
Superapp Selfdrive's drafts follow what Apple documents, not folklore. For the full myth list, see our keyword research guide.
- Myth: keywords in the description help App Store ranking. Apple's text-relevance list is title, subtitle, keywords and primary category, and Apple says "Don't add unnecessary keywords to your description in an attempt to improve search results." (Google Play is different.)
- Myth: promotional text is indexed. Apple: "promotional text doesn't affect your app's search ranking so it should not be used to display keywords."
- Myth: the 6.9-inch screenshot is required. The required iPhone size is now "iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)."
- Myth: 65% of downloads come from people searching for apps like yours. Brand searches are part of that figure.
- Myth: an app preview video always helps. In Apple's Simply Piano example, the page without a video won.
- Myth: you can ask for ratings whenever you like. The system shows the prompt at most three times in 365 days, and people can turn it off.
- Myth: more localizations always pay off. David Smith found earlier attempts' "added cost and complexity never really paid off" before German and Russian worked. Pick languages with demand.
- Myth: ASO is a launch task. Apptamin: "ASO is not something you do once: it's a process."
Why ASO Is Routine Work an AI Agent Does Well
Superapp Selfdrive exists because most ASO is the same loop repeated: check rankings and analytics, read ad results, find the next keyword, rewrite one field, wait, compare. As a disclosure, Superapp is our product, so weigh this accordingly.
The work never ends. Apptamin says "App Store Optimization is something that needs to be done on an ongoing basis," and Expo's guide says "It's best to revisit your listings each month" (Apptamin, Expo). Done by hand, the ads part alone wears people down; one founder running ads for many apps wrote, "On a good day this took an hour," and "I dropped things constantly" (Indie Hackers). That is the kind of work an agent is better at than a person: it does not forget a keyword, skip a week or lose track of which change caused which result.
What Selfdrive does, in its own words:
- "Selfdrive combines proprietary keyword data, your Apple Ads results and competing listings"
- "Selfdrive can draft supported text metadata, including the app name, subtitle, keyword field and description."
- "The agent proposes metadata changes with a reason for each recommendation."
- "Nothing is submitted as an approved listing update until you accept it."
- "Within that approval, Selfdrive can manage bids and keywords without asking about every adjustment."
- "Selfdrive does not authorize an increase beyond the budget you set."
- "Every morning, Superapp sends you one email."
What it does not do: "Screenshot production is not included in this ASO workflow." It does not design icons, In-App Events or custom product pages, it works on iOS apps only, it is in beta, and "Keyword research does not guarantee a rank or a number of downloads." Also, "A daily report does not mean a daily metadata change." Pricing: "Selfdrive is included in the Max plan, $100/month, with 230 credits a month," and "ASO agent work uses Superapp credits." "There is no advertising spend required for an organic listing update"; Apple Ads spend is separate and stays within the budget you set.
| Way to do ASO | Superapp Selfdrive | Who does the work | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI agent | Superapp Selfdrive: keywords, text metadata, Apple Ads, daily report | Agent, you approve | $100/month Max plan, plus any ad budget | Founders who want ASO and Apple Ads done with approval |
| DIY with Apple's tools | n/a | You | Free, plus your time | Learning, very small apps |
| DIY with an ASO tool | n/a | You, with data | Monthly subscription, often high | Teams with a dedicated ASO person |
| ASO agency | n/a | Agency | Monthly retainer | Large apps with budget for creative and strategy |

ASO on Google Play: What Is Different
Superapp Selfdrive is for iOS apps; if you also ship on Android, Google Play works differently.
| Element | Superapp Selfdrive | App Store | Google Play |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | Superapp Selfdrive: App Store only | 30 characters | "Your app title must be 30 characters or less." |
| Subtitle or short description | iOS subtitle drafts | Subtitle, 30 characters | "A short description should convey your app or game's message in 80 characters or less." |
| Keyword field | iOS keyword field drafts | 100 bytes, hidden | None |
| Long description | Can draft iOS description | 4,000 characters, not in Apple's ranking list | "A full description allows for 4,000 characters." Widely believed to be indexed |
| Extra pages | n/a | 70 custom product pages with keywords | "You can create up to 50 custom store listing pages." |
| A/B tests | n/a | 3 treatments, 90 days, visuals only | "(you can choose up to 2 variants)"; "Store listing experiments stop automatically after running for 6 months." |
Sources: Google Play Console Help: store listing, custom store listings, store listing experiments.
Google's description guidance is the opposite of a keyword dump: "Give an overview of your app or game using everyday language, not a list of keywords," and "Don't fill your app description with lists of words that are unrelated to your app or game."
A 90-Day ASO Plan
Superapp Selfdrive runs this plan as recurring work if you prefer approving to doing; the steps are the same either way.
| Phase | Superapp Selfdrive | What to do | Done when |
|---|---|---|---|

| Days 8 to 14: metadata | Drafts name, subtitle and keyword field with reasons | Main phrase in the name, secondary in the subtitle, single words in the keyword field; submit with the next version | New metadata is live |
| Days 8 to 30: Apple Ads | Runs exact match campaigns within your budget | Test your 20 phrases in exact match; add negatives; note which convert | You know your best converting terms |
| Days 15 to 30: first three screenshots | Not included | Redesign the first three screenshots around your top benefit; check required sizes | New screenshots are live |
| Days 30 to 60: test | n/a | Start a PPO test on the icon or first screenshot; ship a ratings prompt after a completed task | Test running, prompt live |
| Days 30 to 60: second metadata pass | Proposes the next change from ad and ranking data | Move the best converting ad terms into metadata | Second update shipped |
| Days 45 to 75: pages and events | Runs ads to the pages you build | Build 2 or 3 custom product pages; schedule your first In-App Event | Pages and event live |
| Days 60 to 90: expand | n/a | Localize for your top non-English market; nominate a launch or update for featuring three weeks ahead | First localization live |
| Day 90: review | Morning email with before and after metrics | Compare against the day 1 baseline; keep what worked; plan the next quarter | Next 90 days planned |

FAQ
What is App Store optimization?
App Store optimization (ASO) is improving how often your app appears in App Store search and how often people who see it download it. Superapp Selfdrive's AI agent handles the keyword, text metadata and Apple Ads side with your approval.
What is the best way to do ASO in 2026?
Superapp Selfdrive is the simplest if you want it done for you: its agent researches keywords, drafts metadata with reasons, runs Apple Ads and reports daily. Doing it yourself means keywords in the name, subtitle and keyword field, strong first screenshots, ratings prompts, tests and monthly reviews.
How does App Store search ranking work?
Apple says results depend on text relevance (title, subtitle, keywords and primary category) and user behavior (downloads, ratings and reviews, and more).
Does the app description affect App Store ranking?
Apple does not list the description among the text-relevance fields and says not to add keywords to it to improve search. It matters for conversion and web search.
How many characters do I get for ASO metadata?
30 for the app name, 30 for the subtitle, 100 bytes for the keyword field, 170 for promotional text and 4,000 for the description.
Should I repeat keywords in the keyword field?
No. Words in your name, subtitle, category and company name are already indexed, and Apple treats plurals as duplicates.
Can I use competitor names as keywords?
No. Apple lists competing app names and trademarked terms as common reasons for rejection.
How often should I update my ASO?
About once a month for most apps, changing one thing at a time and waiting about four weeks for rankings to settle.
How long does ASO take to work?
Rankings usually take a few weeks to settle after a metadata change. Tests can take up to 90 days to reach confidence.
What screenshot size is required in 2026?
At least one screenshot for "iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)," 1206 x 2622 or 1179 x 2556 pixels, plus iPad 13-inch if your app supports iPad.
Do I need iPhone Duo screenshots?
Apple says screenshots will be required from April 2027 for apps on the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. Adding them earlier shows an iPhone Duo badge on your page.
How many screenshots can I upload?
Up to 10 per device size. The first one to three can appear in search results when there is no preview.
What are iOS 27 creative assets?
New product page headers and search result images or videos that can replace default screenshots in search on iOS 27 and later. They follow guideline 2.3.14 and are stored in the Asset Library.
Do app preview videos increase downloads?
Sometimes. Apple's own Simply Piano example found the page without a video performed better, so test before you commit.
How many times can I ask for a rating?
Up to three times in a 365-day period, using Apple's API. Ask after a person completes a task.
Should I reply to App Store reviews?
Yes, especially to negative reviews about issues you fixed. Reviewers are notified and can update their review.
Should I reset my app rating?
Only after a version that fixes the main complaints. A reset affects all countries at once, cannot be undone and does not remove written reviews.
What are AI review summaries?
Apple-generated paragraphs that summarize your reviews, live in the US and 8 other English storefronts. You can report a concern but not edit them.
What is product page optimization?
Apple's A/B testing tool. You can test up to three treatments of icons, screenshots and previews for up to 90 days.
Can I A/B test my app name or subtitle?
Not with product page optimization. Text changes are measured before and after an update.
What are custom product pages?
Up to 70 alternate product pages with their own screenshots, promotional text, previews, URL and, since October 2025, keywords.
What are In-App Events?
Timely events in your app that appear as cards in search, on your product page and in editorial spots. You can have 10 published at a time, each lasting up to 31 days.
How do I get featured on the App Store?
Build a high-quality, accessible, localized app with a strong product page and submit a Featuring Nomination in App Store Connect at least three weeks ahead.
Does localization help ASO?
Often a lot. Each language gets its own name, subtitle and keyword field, and App Store Connect now supports 50 localizations.
How do Apple Ads help ASO?
Apple Ads show which search terms actually convert for your app. Put the winners into your metadata, then lower bids once you rank organically. Superapp Selfdrive runs this loop for you.
What is a good App Store conversion rate?
It depends on category and definition. Compare against your peer group benchmarks in App Store Connect rather than public averages.
Where can I see my ASO results?
In App Store Connect analytics: impressions, product page views, conversion rate and downloads by source. Note that App Store search includes ad traffic.
Is ASO different on Google Play?
Yes. Google Play has no keyword field, an 80-character short description, a full description that is widely believed to be indexed, and different testing limits.
Can AI do App Store optimization?
Yes, for much of the work. Superapp Selfdrive researches keywords, drafts text metadata, runs Apple Ads and sends a daily report, with your approval for listing changes. It does not make screenshots.
How much does Superapp Selfdrive cost?
It is included in the Superapp Max plan at $100 a month with 230 credits. Apple Ads spend is separate and stays within your budget.
Do I need an ASO agency?
Most indie developers and small teams do not. An agent like Superapp Selfdrive covers the routine keyword and ads work; agencies make sense for large apps that need creative production and strategy.
