Claude Pricing: The Short Answer
Claude has a free plan and three paid individual plans: Pro at $20 a month ($17 a month billed yearly), Max at $100 a month and Ultra at $200 a month. Teams pay per seat, from $20 a month billed yearly for a Standard seat. Developers can also pay per token through the API, where prices range from $0.10 per million input tokens for Haiku 5.5 to $10 for Fable 5.1. Most people should start on Free, move to Pro when they hit limits, and only consider Max or Ultra for heavy daily use of Claude Code or long research sessions.

What Changed: Max 20x Is Now Ultra
At the start of November 2026, Anthropic renamed its two top plans. The $100 Max 5x plan became Max, and the $200 Max 20x plan became Ultra, with no price change, as reported by The Next Web on November 1, 2026. Ultra's weekly allowance is 10 times Pro, not 20 times, but verified Ultra accounts no longer have a five-hour limit. Ultra's included API credits rose to $200 a month.
How Claude Usage Limits Work
Pro and Max have two limits: a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit. Claude's help center says these limits are shared across Claude and Claude Code, so coding in the terminal uses the same allowance as chatting. When you hit a limit you can wait for the reset, turn on usage credits, upgrade, or continue in Claude Code with API credits billed at API rates.

Do You Need Claude to Build an App?
